Man dies after being struck by car near Claremorris

A 83-year-old man died earlier today in an accident on the N60 road at Logatemple, near Claremorris.

The pedestrian was struck by a passing car at around 1 p.m. 

The driver and two passengers in the car involved were uninjured.

The victim, who died at the scene, was brought to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar where a post mortem is due to be carried out.

Traffic diversions were in place on the Claremorris to Balla road for a time this morning as gardai carried out a forensic examination of the accident scene.
