Work starts on new Mayo school building
WORK has commenced on transforming Marsh House in Castlebar into a primary school.
Classrooms are being put in place in the former headquarters of Castlebar Town Council to accommodate pupils of the local Educate Together NS from September.
An Bord Pleanála approved planning permission for a change of use of the historic building earlier this year in order to facilitiate the school.
The school, which was launched last September, has been operating very successfully from a building off Hopkins Road.
But the move to Marsh House will provide children and staff with extra space to prosper and increase enrolment numbers.
An additional member of staff will also be employed from the start of the 2017/18 academic year.
The public car park which operated at Marsh House is now closed to the public.
