Over 200 statements taken by gardaí in Mayo homicide probe
OVER 200 statements have been taken by gardaí as they continue their investigation into the death of 21-year-old Joe Deacy at a house near Swinford several weeks ago.
No arrests have yet been made in connection with the investigation which is regarded as a murder probe.
It is understood that Mr. Deacy's remains have been repatriated to his family in St. Alban's, Hertfordshire, prior to his funeral, details of which have yet to be announced.
Mr. Deacy, a star young GAA player, was found dead in the driveway of a house where he had been staying at Derrynsillagh, Swinford, in the early hours of Saturday, August 12.
He died at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, the following day.
A post mortem examination, carried out by the State Pathologist, Professor Marie Cassidy, indicated that the deceased, who had a head wound, did not die from natural or accidental causes.
Gardaí have made extensive enquiries in Kiltimagh town where Mr. Deacy was socialising in the hours before his untimely death.
Extensive CCTV footage is being viewed by officers at a special incident room which has been set up at Claremorris Garda Station.
Supt. Tony Deacy, who is heading the murder investigation, said there has been a good response by members of the public to their request for information.
He described the investigation as, by its nature, methodical and said it was progressing well.
