Cavan's Joe McQuillan to referee All-Ireland SFC final
CAVAN referee Joe McQuillan has been appointed to officiate the All-Ireland SFC final between Mayo and Dublin at Croke Park on Sunday, September 17.
Attached to the Kill Shamrocks club, he has refereed two All-Ireland finals, the 2011 decider between Dublin and Kerry and the 2013 decider between Dublin and Mayo.
McQuillan was in charge during the game that produced the infamous "spitgate" incident in the 2013 National Football League when Donegal's reigning national footballer of the year, Karl Lacey, who was injured that day, was hit by some spit from a Tyrone supporter.
Among the other important football matches he has refereed include the 2011 Ulster final, two Leinster finals, a Munster final and club and Under 21 All-Ireland finals.
Anthony Nolan (Wicklow) will referee the All-Ireland MFC final between Derry and Kerry.
