Mayo County Board recognises ladies' achievement
MAYO County Board has decided to postpone the county club championships third round games which were due to be held on September 23 and 24, due to the Mayo ladies senior football team qualifying for the All-Ireland championship final.
The Mayo ladies senior team will meet Dublin in the All-Ireland final on Sunday, September 24, in Croke Park and as a result the county board, despite a massive fixture cluster, have decided that there will be no club games that weekend in order that the county can give full support to ladies in their quest to win the Brendan Martyn Cup.
As a result of this decision, the club championship third round games will be played on the weekend of September 30, and October 1. However, in order for Mayo to have teams ready for the Connaught club championships, any draw in the quarterfinals and semi-finals will have to be replayed the following Wednesday night.
Nevertheless, the decision by the Mayo County Board will be greeted warmly by supporters of both codes and they will be seen as giving resounding complete support to their counterparts in the Mayo Ladies County Board and the county ladies senior team.
Like the men, the ladies have brought great honour and glory to the county already this year.
