Mayo GAA manager steps down from role
MAYO ladies senior football boss Frank Browne has announced that he is stepping down as manager of the county senior team.
The Ballyhaunis man, who was widely regarded as one of the best ever coaches of the Mayo squad, informed the players this afternoon that he is leaving the post.
In his statement he praised the effort and dedication of the players over the past couple of years since he took over the role.
He described it as an honour and a privilege to manage the team.
Mayo reached this year’s All-Ireland final which they lost out to Dublin. It had been Mayo's first All-Ireland final appearance since 2007 and was heralded as a huge step forward for the county in the game.
In 2016 he was at the helm as the Mayo ladies won all their national league games and were only pipped at the national league final by Cork. They were also denied an All-Ireland spot in the championship when they lost to Dublin by an injury-minute point.
Replacing Frank is not going to be easy for the Mayo County Board, but a personality in the calibre of Cora Staunton would fit the bill.
