Topaz awards €5,000 cash prize to Mayo GAA club
TOPAZ, Ireland’s largest fuel and convenience retailer, has announce that Ballinrobe GAA club has been drawn as a winner in its 2017 Cash for Clubs initiative, with a total of €5,000 being awarded to the club.
Topaz is the country’s largest fuel and convenience retailer with 438 sites nationwide. Being at the heart of local communities across the country, Topaz recognises the vital role that clubs of all shapes and sizes play in providing opportunities for people of every age to learn new skills, socialise and be active.
Given the challenges clubs across Ireland face when it comes to vital fundraising, Topaz introduced the ‘Cash for Clubs’ scheme in 2015 to give clubs the opportunity to generate much-needed funds by harnessing the support of their members and the local community.
After signing up to ‘Cash for Clubs’, members collected tokens by fueling up at their local Topaz station. This year, Ballinrobe GAA club was randomly drawn out as a lucky winner of a €5,000 cash prize.
In 2017, over 3,000 clubs registered for the initiative. Since its launch in 2015, Cash for Clubs has awarded €400,000 in prizes to clubs nationwide.
MJ Tierney, Head of Marketing at Topaz, said: “Topaz Cash for Clubs was first set up in 2015 to reward the tireless work of clubs in Ireland that demonstrate commitment to their communities each day. In the third year of this initiative, we are delighted to award a cash prize of €5,000 to Ballinrobe GAA club.
“With 438 service stations across the island of Ireland, Topaz is very much at the heart of Irish communities, so we are thrilled to have the chance to reward the intrinsic roles that clubs play in their communities. We would like to extend our congratulations to Ballinrobe GAA club - we hope that the prize money will help them to make a difference to their community in the coming years.”
