Man guilty of 21 counts of indecent assault by majority verdict
A JURY at the Circuit Criminal Court in Castlebar has found a man guilty of 21 counts of indecently assaulting three young girls on various dates between 1976 and 1994.
The victims are sisters. They were living at an address in Co. Mayo when the offences were committed.
After a majority verdict of guilty on all counts was returned by the jury this evening, gardaí concern was expressed that the accused is living in the same vicinity as one of the complainants.
Mr. Diarmuid Connolly, defence counsel, assured Judge Rory MacCabe the accused would remain under curfew and stay away from the victims and their families.
Remanding the accused in custody, Judge MacCabe said he would finalise sentencing on Friday of next week (October 27).
Victim impact statements are to be provided for the sentencing hearing.
