Free taking shoot-out could decide ladies final replay
MAYO ladies senior football club champions Carnacon will renew their rivalry with their Galway counterparts, Kilkerrin/Clonberne, when they meet in the Connaught final replay in Ballyhaunis on Sunday at 2 p.m.
On Sunday last at the same venue they two sides finished level after a very exciting encounter. However, the outcome of this years decider will be decided one way or another next Sunday.
If they sides are still deadlocked at the end of 60 minutes play there will be extra time with 10 minutes each half.
If they are still level, then a free taking competition will take place from the 30 metre mark to decide the winners.
Like a penalty shoot-out in soccer, each team will nominate five different players to take a free. If they are still level, it will then go to sudden death until such a time as one team scores and the other side misses.
Such has been the close encounters between these two teams over the last number of years, it would come as no great surprise to see this senior final decided by free kicks for the first time in the history of the championship.
