Prestigious award for Ballinrobe-based Peugeot technician

MICHAEL Shaughnessy of J.J. Burke Car Sales, Ballinrobe, has been awarded Peugeot Technician of the Year 2017 at the annual Peugeot Aftersales Conference held at the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel, Dublin.

Shaughnessy, a long-time employee at the Ballinrobe dealership was “thrilled and surprised” when his name was announced.

He stated: “Working on the Peugeot models over the last 16 years has been an amazing experience. I can even remember the first Peugeot I pdi’d, it was a Peugeot 305 van and I still have fond memories of this.

“Seeing the evolution of the Peugeot cars and vans and working on them makes my job very easy. I could not believe when I heard my name being called. I am delighted with the award and I look forward to another 16 years working on all the Peugeot ranges. A big thanks to John Joe and Helena Burke for bringing me into the business when I was only an apprentice, and now working with the next generations of Burkes in Pauline, Karen and Joseph is a great pleasure.”

Michael joined J.J. Burke in October 33 years ago after completing one year in Anko, he continued his apprenticeship with J.J. Burke Car Sales and from there he has seen the business grow and evolve to when they tooled the first Peugoet model in 1987.

Dealer principal Pauline Burke said: “Through the years Mike has been a loyal and committed member of staff receiving training on every model of Peugeot from the early 1990’s to the current models. He has seen the evolution of the Peugeot and how it has progressed over the years.

“He is a huge part of our business, we well as working on the range of cars and vans he is also integral to the training up of our new technicians. We are so proud of Mike and thrilled he has received the recognition he truly deserves.”
