Death of member of leading Mayo business family
THE death has occurred of Gerard (Gerry) P. Casey, Pontoon Drive, Castlebar, and formerly of Abbey Street, Roscommon.
A member of one of the west of Ireland's best known and most respected business families, news of his passing has evoked a sense of tremendous sorrow and loss across the region.
The deceased had a long association with the motor trade and Casey Cars, which he founded, provided an exceptional service in new and used car sales as well as vehicle servicing and maintenance in Castlebar.
A dedicated family man, he was a member of Castlebar Golf Club for many years.
He is survived by his wife Sue, daughters Maria (Nolan), Maggie (Meehan) and Suzanne (Whitten), sons Gerry, Rory and Tony, sister Ita (Staunton), sons-in-law Mark (Nolan), Declan (Meehan) and Mark (Whitten), daughters-in-law Katie, Eavan and Audrey, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.
Gerry was predeceased by his sisters Dr. Maura Casey, Frances Brookes, Elizabeth O'Shea, brothers P.J. Casey and Fr. Jim Casey.
His remains will be reposing at Coady's Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Tuesday evening from 4 p.m. with removal at 8 p.m. to his residence.
Removal on Wednesday morning at 11.30 a.m. from his residence to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, for Requiem Mass at 1 p.m.
Burial takes place afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
