The Irish 'Barber of the Year' award goes to Mayo business
A MAYO business has scooped the 'Barber of the Year' accolade at the annual Irish Hair and Beauty Industry Awards in Dublin tonight.
Kelly's Barber Rooms and Fine Gentlemen's Grooming, Castle Street, Castlebar, clinched the prestigious title for the first time.
The wonderful recognition has been achieved within weeks of the establishment celebrating its 85th anniversary, which was marked by the opening of a new establishment a few doors away.
Speaking to The Connaught Telegraph from the Crowne Plaza, John Kelly, proprietor, said he was delighted with the success.
“We own a debt of gratitude to our staff and customers. It would not have happened without their support. That was the key.”
John was accompanied at the awards ceremony by his wife Cathriona and son Conrad, both of whom are involved in the business.
It's been some year for John. In September he captained the Castlebar Golf Club team that won the Jimmy Bruen Shield trophy, the club's first ever national title at senior level.
There was further good news for Mayo tonight with the announcement that Beauty by Lynda, Kiltimagh, a business run by Lynda Cunnane, won the Beauty Therapist of the Year Award at the event.
