Castlebar dentist named Connaught Dentist of the Year
CASTLEBAR-based dentist Dr. Angus Bourke has been crowned Connaught Dentist of the year at an awards ceremony in Dublin.
Dr. Bourke was nominated by a female patient for the supportive and compassionate treatment he provided to her.
The Sensodyne Sensitive Dentist of the Year Awards – which were held in the RDS in Dublin at the weekend – invite patients to nominate dentists who have provided them with dental care above and beyond all expectations.
The patient said that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and due to the medications she was on there was a risk in having any invasive dental procedures.
“Dr. Bourke answered all of my questions and concerns in a gentle and professional manner and put me at ease. He always reassures me not to hesitate in calling into the practice if I have any difficulties between my dental visits.
“His genuineness, compassion and sense of humour has been outstanding in my eyes.”
The judges’ highlighted the mix of clinical and communication skills which Dr. Bourke displayed in treating the patient.
The President of the Irish Dental Association, Dr. Robin Foyle, said the awards highlighted the excellence of Irish dentistry and the importance of the dentist/patient relationship.
“These awards celebrate the commitment of dentists all over the country to the highest standards of patient care. The patients’ stories provide a tremendous validation of the work dentists carry out on a daily basis and the trust and confidence they have in their local dentist.”
