Liz King, before and after.

EAT and lose weight – the 'shocking' start to Liz King's weight-loss journey.

And what a successful journey it's been.

The Ballinrobe photographer has lost just over three and a half stone since February, and now she's motivating others looking to shed the pounds in her role as a Unislim leader.

Liz's story isn't a case of 'been there, done that'. She's still on her journey to make her target weight, and you can join her at her classes in Ballinrobe.

Liz takes up the story: "I joined Unislim in Castlebar on February 4, 2017. I have struggled with my weight all of my adult life. I had reached the heaviest I have ever been and I was feeling depressed, unhappy, unhealthy and disgusted with myself.

"My friend Fiona had just joined the Unislim class on a Saturday morning in the tennis club in Castlebar. She told me about the fantastic leader, Triona Callaghan, and suggested that I should consider joining.

"So, I took the initiative and went to the class with her the following week."

Liz quickly realised that the plan was different from what she had done before. "I had to eat to lose my weight, not deprive or starve myself as I had done so many times before.

"I began to lose weight quickly, losing 7lbs in the first week. To say that I was delighted is an understatement.

"I was shocked. I had followed the plan and I had never eaten so much, so I was not actually expecting such a weight loss.

"It took time to understand that this was a lifestyle change, not a diet, that dreaded word that always made me feel like I had to go without, and undoubtedly ended up in me going back to old unhealthy habits."

Since February, Liz has lost just over three and a half stone and is continuing to lose weight to get to her target healthy BMI range. As a result of her success with the Feed Yourself Fit plan, she was being asked by many about what she doing and how had she lost the weight.

"I decided that I wanted to help others who were battling with their bodies the way that I always had. I spoke with Triona, my class leader, about the possibility of becoming a Unislim leader myself. She encouraged me 100% and put me forward as a candidate for training.

"I trained as a Unislim leader in October and I have now opened my own class on Thursday mornings in the parish centre in Ballinrobe."

The class in the parish centre runs from 8 to 10 a.m. and is fast becoming a great success (there’s also an evening class with Triona). And Liz is opening a new class in Headford in January also.

Meanwhile, she continues to attend her Castlebar class as a member and will do so until she reaches her final target.

She added: "I have made so many wonderful friends in the class and the sense of camaraderie between us is wonderful.

"As well as having an amazing leader, who has supported and encouraged me all the way, I also have the fellow class members who continue to support me and encourage me as I continue on my journey to a healthier, happier, slimmer version of me.

"I am delighted to now be in a position to help others and I enjoy it so much. It's a wonderful feeling when a member stands on the scale and has had a loss. Their sense of achievement is contagious."

Unislim is the only Irish slimming company and will be celebrating 45 years in business in 2018. Their approach to weight loss incorporates healthy eating, exercise and a healthy, happy mindset.

"I am so delighted to be a part of such a wonderful Irish company and to be able to help others to become healthier and happier versions of themselves," said Liz.
