FEARS downgrading concerns have been raised over the future of Castlebar Train Station.

Mayo TD Lisa Chambers has tabled a number parliamentary questions to the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross, to clarify if the facility is to become an unmanned station, as feared.

She also wants clarification in regard to the proposed reducation of staffing levels at the station.

In his response, the minister said the issue raised is a matter for Iarnród Éireann.

“I have forwarded the deputy's question to the company for direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a response within ten working days,” he outlined.

“This is something I am very concerned about and it needs to be clarified as a matter of urgency.”
