Death of one of Castlebar's best-known personalities
THE death has taken place of Pat Gannon, St. Patrick's Avenue, Castlebar, one of the town's best-known personalities.
In his late sixties, he was an avid cyclist and undertook a number of charity cycles in different parts of the world to raise funds for the National Council for the Blind and other needy causes.
Pat was very proud of the fact that his cycling partner on many of these events was the legendary Sean Kelly, one of Ireland's greatest ever sportsmen.
The deceased had an immense love of Castlebar and its people and enjoyed chatting out times past.
He is survived by his brother Michael, sisters Marquerite (Mags), and Marie, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered. He was predeceased by his brother, Corneluis, some time ago.
His remains willl be reposing at the Coady Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Thursday from 5.30 p.m. with removal at 7 p.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary. Castlebar. Requiem Mass takes place on Friday at 11 a.m. with cremation afterwards in Shannon Crematorium.
