Drive drinking arrests in Mayo doubled over festive period

THE number of drink driving arrests in the Mayo Garda Division over the Christmas/ New Year period almost doubled.

In the period December 8 to January 5, there were 33 arrests compared to 19 for the same period last year.

Arrests were spread throughout the county as gardaí mounted checkpoints in order to detect offenders.

A garda spokesman commented: “Unfortuntately, drivers don't seem to be getting our message about drink driving.”
