Death of Joe Deacy in Mayo to be featured on RTÉ Crimecall
RTÉ Crimecall is to feature the tragic death in east Mayo last year of Joe Deacy.
It will be screened on Monday, January 29, in a bid to try to solve the mystery of his passing.
Mr. Deacy was found with head injuries outside a house at Gortnasillagh, Swinford, on Saturday, August 12, last.
The 21-year-old, from St. Albans in England, was initially taken to Mayo University Hospital.
He was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital, where he was pronounced dead the following day.
Two men in their 20s were arrested in November as part of the gardaí's investigation. They were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and brought to separate garda stations in the county for questioning.
They were subsequently released without charge following the expiration of the 24-hour detention period.
It was reported at the time that gardaí searched two locations as part of their investigations.
Now the GAA club in which he was involved in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, St. Colmcilles, has issued a plea for 'as many people as possible to watch the programme in the hope that someone, somewhere may just talk.'
A statement issued via the club's website read: “We lost Joe tragically last year. He was just 21 years of age. Since then, there has been no outcome from the investigation that followed his death.
“We appreciate that we are all in England, but if we can spread the word in the hope that someone may just trigger something.
“It's a long shot but it is where we're at and Joe deserves a break and so does his family for some sort of peace of mind and closure.”
