Protest march against post office closure
A PUBLIC protest march against any attempt to close Ardnaree Post Office in Ballina will take place this Saturday.
An Post is currently considering the future post office service provision at Ardnaree, which could include the permanent closure of the office.
Before the company takes any decision, interested parties have been invited to submit their views to An Post no later than Friday next, January 26.
In coming to a decision, the company will take account of network coverage needs, the level of business at the office, customer access to service elsewhere, and the capacity of neighbouring offices to handle business if the office close.
Full details of how to make a submission are on the Save Ardnaree Post Office Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SaveArdnareePostOffice/
Saturday's march gets underway at 2 p.m.
As a post on the Facebook page explains: “As our first demonstration of solidarity, we as a community want to send a clear message to An Post that we take a united stand against any attempt to close the local post office.”
Gathering at the Humbert monument beside Dunnes Stores car park, the protesters will march to Ardnaree Post Office where a public gathering will take place, addressed by public representatives and others.
An online petition has also been launched to allow people have their say at https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/save-ardnaree-post-office-2#.WmOULdkcy_J.facebook
