LITTER ALERT: Illegal dumping on R310 between Castlebar and Pontoon is highlighted

A MAYO resident has taken to social media to highlight to the public how serious the plight of illegal dumping has become.

In a Facebook post, Nollaig Ó Cuinn wrote: “This morning I went for my walk along the R310 between Castlebar and Pontoon.

“I decided to take photographs to highlight to the public how serious the plight of illegal dumping has become. This is a serious issue, not only on the R310, but on every country road.

“This area in particular is an area of Natural Heritage. Numerous people walk and cycle along this designated scenic route.

“I have brought this issue to the attention of numerous people and yet nothing has changed. It goes without saying that dumping shouldn't take place anywhere. As the saying goes: 'beauty dies where litter lies'.

“If this continues it will have a negative impact on the local area. I call on Mayo County Council and the local councillors to address this issue without further delay.”
