There's simply no stopping magnificent Michaela
THE CONNAUGHT TELEGRAPH YOUNG SPORTSTARS OF THE YEAR NO. 3:
FOR top athlete, Michaela Walsh, March was another jam-packed month filled with extraordinary performances both nationally and internationally in shot putt and hammer.
Michaela started her winning streak when winning the national Under 20 indoor title in the shot putt and breaking the championship record with a throw of 14.95m.
Her throw also set a new Irish junior record. Her achievement was also a qualification standard for the European Juniors. Michaela's throw was a full two metres ahead of the Under-23 champions.
It was gold all round for the Swinford athlete the following weekend when she competed at the Irish National Life Health Senior Indoor Championships in Abbotstown, Dublin.
Michaela, still a junior, moved up the ranks to compete at the highest level of athletics competition -the National Senior Championships.
The gutsy teenager showed that age and the quality of the field would not faze her when she won gold in the senior women's 4kg shot putt.
Michaela ended the year with 13 gold medals and set seven new records.
The awards will be presented at a gala function in Breaffy House Resort on Friday night, February 16.
