Shrule's Jason is on the road to success
THE CONNAUGHT TELEGRAPH YOUNG SPORTSTARS OF THE YEAR NO. 10:
SHRULE’S Jason Murphy was literally flying high in 2017.
The Cork Forest Rally was the final round of the 2017 M. O’Brien Plant Hire Junior 1000 Championship and provided a fine finale to an excellent inaugural season on gravel.
The 17-year-old not only only won the Mallow-based round but clinched the 2017 national title.
Dominating the championships with three overall wins, the teenage rally driver entered the history books in his 1 litre Peugeot 107 as the first winner of this tough and challenging motorsport discipline, guided by his uncle and navigator, Matthew, who enabled Jason to go full throttle and flourish as the youngest ever champion in the Valvoline Motorsport Ireland National Forest Rally Championship.
Building on a career which first seen Jason get behind the wheel at 14 years of age, as part of the National Autograss Championship, the young Mayo man has shown this year that he has the ability to go on and achieve great success in motorsport.
