Survey to be conducted on town centre bridge

A SURVEY is to be conducted of the structural soundness of the parapet wall on the bridge at Bridge Street in Castlebar.

The cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District, Councillor Martin McLoughlin, submitted a motion on the matter at the February meeting of the authority and it was carried.

He said the survey is needed to assess what works might be required in the interest of safety.

“There is also a duty to ensure the structure is visually up to a good standard so as not to lower the overall aesthetic view of the town,” he added.
