Minister Shane Ross invited to Mayo to inspect R312 route
AN invitation has been issued to the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross, to visit Mayo.
Deputy Dara Calleary said he wants him to travel the R312 from Belmullet in the very north of Mayo to Castlebar.
The Ballina-based TD said it is a route often taken by people in ambulances because it is the main route to Mayo University Hospital.
He said: “Taking that journey in a car is hard enough but taking it in an ambulance is nigh on impossible.
"If an ambulance is trying to get to the hospital at high speed on that route, the damage done to the patient, the driver and the vehicle is appalling. It is typical of roads all over County Mayo.”
