Double boost for Fianna Fáil party in Mayo

MAYO TD Dara Calleary has stated he is deeply honoured to have been promoted to the position of deputy leader of Fianna Fáil by party leader Micháel Martin today.

His constituency colleague, Deputy Lisa Chambers, has also been apppointed frontbench spokesperson on Brexit.

Speaking following his promotion, the Ballina-based TD said: “For 11 years I have been representing Fianna Fáil as an elected Dáil representative for Mayo, during which time I have always endeavoured to achieve the best I can for my constituents regardless of political affiliation.

“It has been and continues to be an honour to wear the Mayo jersey in Dáil Éireann, to fight for better services and outcomes for the people of the county and to make sure that Ireland becomes an Ireland for All.

“There is much work to be done in the months and the years ahead. I look forward to holding the Fine Gael government to account in the months ahead.

“I look forward to assisting in leading the Fianna Fáil assault on the next general election, to returning two Fianna Fáil TDs for Mayo, to returning Fianna Fáil to government under the leadership of Micháel Martin and to providing better outcomes and services for Mayo and the west for many years to come.

“I thank my Oireachtas colleagues in Mayo, Deputy Lisa Chambers and Senator Dr. Keith Swanick, and the Fianna Fáil members of Mayo County Council for their continued hard work on behalf communities throughout Mayo.

“Thank you also to the officers and members of Mayo Fianna Fáil, my constituency office staff, my family and not least my wife Siobhán for their unwavering support.

Deputy Chambers said she is looking forward to her new challenge.
