Parsons having scans in Galway hospital

MAYO star midfielder Tom Parsons, who suffered a shocking knee injury while playing in the Connaught senior football championship quarterfinal against Galway in Elverys MacHale Park, Castlebar, yesterday (Sunday), is recovering in hospital in Galway.

Mayo County Board chairman Mike Connelly told The Connaught Telegraph that the Charlestown clubman is continuing to have scans on his knee and it will be tomorrow (Tuesday) before the full extent of his injury is known.

Said Connelly: “Tom (Parsons) is in hospital in Galway at the moment and is having a number of scans on his damaged knee. We are all hoping the damage will be not be as serious as first thought, but it will be Tuesday before the results of the scans are known.

“It was a very unfortunate injury he picked up. For the moment all we can do is to wish him well and leave everything to the medical staff.”

Meanwhile, the Mayo senior team will return to action on June 9 for the first round of the qualifiers. The draw for this round will be made in two weeks' time and the following are the teams who will be in this open draw along with Mayo: London, Louth, Offaly, Wexford, Cavan, Tipperary or Waterford, Clare or Limerick, Dublin or Wicklow, Laois or Westmeath, Longford or Meath, Carlow or Kildare, Armagh or Fermanagh, Tyrone or Monaghan, Donegal or Derry, and Down or Antrim.

As one can see, there are not going to be very many easy opponents for Mayo in this first round of the qualifiers.
