Death of retired Mayo soldier who served with the United Nations

THE death has occurred of Terry O'Donohoe, 22, McHale Road, Castlebar, one of the town's oldest and most respected personalities.

In his 90s, the deceased had a distinguished career in the Irish Army and served overseas with the United Nations on a number of occasions.

A native of Co. Wexford, he was an accomplished hurler in his youth and coached at Castlebar Boxing Club for a number of years. He was a keen fitness enthusiast throughout his life.

Predeceased by his wife Birdie and sons Paddy and Terence, he is very deeply regretted by his daughters Virginia (Hegarty) and Sandra (Ross) (Wales), son-in-law Ian, brothers, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great, grandchildren, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is extended.

His remains will be reposing at the Coady Funeral Home, Castlebar, this evening (Wednesday) from 6 p.m. with removal at 7.30 p.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, via McHale Road.

A Guard of Honour is being formed by members and friends of Castlebar Boxing Club as a mark of respect to one of its longest-serving members.

Funeral Mass takes place on Thursday at 11 a.m. with burial afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
