Turnout in Castlebar lower so far than other major towns in Mayo
VOTER turnout in today's referendum has been slower so far in Castlebar than other major towns in the county, the Mayo County Registrar's Office has confirmed.
Figures released to The Connaught Telegraph revealed that the turnout in the county town up to 4 p.m. was as low as 23 per cent.
That's nine per cent lower that both Ballina and Westport, both towns have recorded a 32% turnout.
Turnout figures for other urban centres of the county include Claremorris (27%) and Foxford (26%).
Polling stations remain open until 10 p.m. tonight.
