Gardaí question man in connection with Joe Deacy investigation

A MAN is being questioned at Claremorris Garda Station in connection with the continuing investigation into the death of Joe Deacy last August.

The man, understood to be in his 20s, was arrested this morning and is being questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Mr. Deacy was found outside a house at Gortnasillagh, Swinford, on August 13 last. He was 21 years old. He was initially taken to Mayo University Hospital and later to Beaumont Hospital for treatment to serious head injuries.

A promising Gaelic footballer, Mr. Deacy was visiting from his hometown, St. Albans in Hertfordshire, at the time of his passing. He was a regular visitor to Mayo

Following his death in Beaumont Hospital, a post-mortem revealed that he died from significant head injuries that were not sustained accidentally, as was first thought.
