Under 16 girls make fantastic start to tournament
THE Mayo Under 16 girls footballers made it a double winning start for the county at the Gaynor Cup this afternoon.
The team won their first match of the tournament in Limerick, beating Longford 4-1. Earlier the Under 14s also won their opening game.
Mayo got off to a dream start when Louise Dowling gave them the lead after just 57 seconds. It was all even at the break after Longford equalised on the stroke of half-time.
Goals in the second half from Alva Munnelly, Dowling again, and a peach of a free kick from Kelsey Munroe gave the Mayo girls a fantastic start to the tournament.
The girls will be back in action again tomorrow.
