Tragedy has cast dark cloud over a very wide area
SEPARATE investigations are underway into the death of a farmer in Co. Mayo over the weekend.
Patrick (Pat) Quinn, a single man, from Castlelucas, Ballyglass, Claremorris, was working with relatives collecting bales when he slipped and fell under a trailer.
The victim, who was in his early fifties, was rushed by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar, but was dead on arrival.
It is understood that Mr. Quinn was being helped by some family members in the operation and that some of the group hoped to travel to Newbridge for the Mayo versus Kildare championship game later in the day.
Separate investigations into the tragedy are being conducted by An Garda Síochána and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA).
A friend of the Quinn family, Councillor Al McDonnell, said today (Sunday) the death had cast 'a dark cloud over a very wide area'.
He added that the Quinn family was 'hugely united' and very popular.
Mr. Quinn, who was known as Pat Quinn Junior, was predeceased by his parents.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Ann, Francis, Mary, Michael, Noreen, Paul, Carmel, Damian and Noel, as well as nephews and nieces, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law.
The remains will repose at Ballyglass Community Centre tomorrow (Monday) evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
Burial will take place in Guesdian Cemetery on Tuesday following Requiem Mass at 12 noon in St. Gerald’s Church, Mayo Abbey.
