President Higgins will seek another term in office
AHEAD of his visit to Mayo today, President Michael D. Higgins has confirmed he will seek another term in office.
In an official statement released this morning, President Higgins confirmed that he will be offering himself as an independent candidate, under Article 12.4.4 of Bunreacht Na hÉireann, when the Ministerial Order for a Presidential Election is made later in the year.
The government has been informed of this decision.
The President is visiting Co. Mayo this afternoon where he has two engagements.
He and Mrs. Higgins will visit the Hope House addiction treatment centre in Foxford to acknowledge 25 years of service. Later, he will perform the official opening of an exhibition entitled Travellers Journey in the Museum of Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar.
