Mayo car accident claims life of man

A MAN has been killed this evening in a single-vehicle accident in east Mayo.

The fatality occurred around 7 p.m. on the N5 between Swinford and Bohola.

The victim was pronounced dead in his car by emergency services.

The remains have been taken to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar for a post mortem examination.

Gardai, fire brigade units and an HSE ambulance attended the scene.

A section of the N5 Dublin to Westport road has been closed pending a forensic investigation.

Traffic diversions are in place.
