Crutch user Nikki to climb four mountains in 24 hours
NIKKI Bradley is set to become the first crutch user in Ireland to climb four mountain peaks in 24 hours.
This Saturday (July 21), adaptive adventurer Nikki and internationally acclaimed mountaineer Iain Miller will attempt to climb four of Ireland’s most iconic mountains in less than 24 hours, including Croagh Patrick.
This will be the first time this has ever been attempted by a crutch user.
Nikki was left with severe damage to her right hip after battling cancer (Ewing’s Sarcoma) in her teens but has chosen to embrace her circumstances and hopes to raise a substantial amount of money for charity while doing so.
Nikki regularly participates in physical challenges as part of an awareness campaign founded by the Donegal woman in 2013.
Fighting Fit For Ewing’s is a campaign designed to highlight the importance of exercise for rehabilitation while raising awareness for Ewing’s Sarcoma. Some past challenges include mountain and rock climbing with Iain Miller, scaling a route of the Sólheimajökull glacier in Iceland, completing a 24km Special Forces march during winter conditions in Wales (The Fan Dance), and attempting a Guinness World record in Holland.
Iain Miller has over 25 years experience as a mountaineer and rock climber, combined with 10 years experience of mountain instruction. He has made over 1,000 first ascents of previously unclimbed sea stacks, sea cliffs and rock faces in both Ireland and Scotland and has appeared in international media.
The four peaks the duo plan to climb are Carrauntoohil in Kerry, followed by Croagh Patrick in Mayo, Slieve Donard in Down and Mount Errigal in Donegal.
The three charities chosen for this event are the Irish Cancer Society, Action Cancer and the Ross Nugent Foundation.
