Three Mayo organisations to benefit from LEADER funding

THE Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, has announced funding of €48,346.50 for three community initiatives in Mayo under the LEADER Programme.
The funding will be provided by Minister Ring’s Department through the Mayo LEADER Local Action Group.
He stated: “I’m delighted to announce funding for the communities in Ballina, Straide and Tiernaur to support these important local community initiatives.
“I have now announced over €2.65 million in funding for more than 71 LEADER funded projects in Mayo. Nationally, over €36 million has been approved for almost 1,200 LEADER projects. This is an exponential increase from this time last year when 134 projects had been approved for a value of just over €2.4 million. It reflects a significant expansion of activity over the last 12 months since I introduced a range of measures to make the programme work better for both potential applicants and for the LEADER Local Action Groups which deliver the programme on the ground.
“I want to see this momentum continue over the coming months and the funding for the approved projects drawn down as quickly as possible. LEADER funding represents an enormous opportunity for rural businesses and communities that are in need of investment and it’s great to see the programme continuing to grow and make a difference for rural Ireland over the coming years.”
