Passing of retired Mayo railway gatehouse keeper

THE death has taken place at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Castlebar, of Joe Byrne, CIE Gatehouse, Islandeady, Castlebar, and late of Manulla and Balla.

A much-loved and popular personality, news of his passing is widely mourned in the community at large.

His remains will be reposing at Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar, on Sunday from 5.30 p.m. with removal at 7 p.m. to St. Cronin’s Church, Balla, arriving at 7.30pm.

Requiem Mass takes place on Monday at 11.30 a.m. followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
