Make a splash at Inishturk’s Wild Atlantic Seafest
CELEBRATE Inishturk Island’s seafood, maritime heritage, music and culture with the friendliest island welcome from August 17 to 19.
In its premiere year, this festival is really making a big splash with a range of activities, events, workshops and music acts for groups of friends, families or a romantic weekend for couples, writes Tom Gillespie.
There is a choice of glamping, B&B or camping available - but be warned, there is limited availability.
The launch on Friday evening, August 17, includes snacking on crab claws, a barbecue in a beach cove, and candlelight music from Don’t Tell Dad on a lobster pot stage – a once in a lifetime experience.
This will be followed by star gazing with Terra Firma and their guest Seanchaí. Then warm up to craic agus ceol in the island disco hall.
On Saturday, August 18, young and old day-trippers can also orienteer the island for pirate queen treasure, learn how to forage the coast for a picnic with Marie Power, or find out how to fillet a fish properly with renowned fish filleting expert Hal Dawson from Scotland.
If vegetables are more your thing, join Ingrid from the Leitrim Organic Centre in the organic community garden for some top tips on tasty greens.
Delicious
Indulge your sweet tooth with the most delicious savoury and sweet treats from Sweet Nothings at the Food Fest (vegan approved).
The fun goes on with tours, fishing trips, games on the beach and the chance to savour the most delicious and freshest seafood on the Wild Atlantic Way at the gala dinner. Then rock the night away to Cúla Búla, the Galwegian trad rockers.
Wake up on Sunday (August 19) to a traditional boat demonstration, the Inishturk Regatta, plus music and refreshments in the harbour.
You can then enjoy the sea safari back to the mainland with a smile on your face, knowing you have experienced all the best Inishturk has to offer.
