Death of member of old Castlebar family

THE death has taken place of Gerard (Ger) Foy, Belass, Foxford.

In his 85th year, he was a native of Thomas Street, Castlebar, and is survived by his wife Nora.

Ger is also mourned by his nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.

Ger was the last surviving member of the Foy family, regarded locally as 'auld stock', which hailed originally from Thomas Street in the town.

He was predeceased by brothers Tommy, Jimmy, Cyril, Francis, George and sisters Josephine, Alicia and Winnie.

Ger was a former porter at Mayo University Hospital and was held in very high esteem.

His remains will be reposing at his residence in Foxford tomorrow (Sunday) from 5 to 7 p.m. 

Requiem Mass takes place on Monday at St. Michael’s Church, Foxford, at 1.30 p.m. with burial afterwards in Craggagh Cemetery.
