Carnacon Ladies GAA Club 'devastated' by 'unprecedented situation'
Carnacon Ladies GAA Club has issued a statement this morning in response to the club's ban by the Mayo Ladies County Board from taking part in the Mayo senior league and championship for the remainder of the season as a result of the withdrawal of players from the county senior squad.
In it, the club admitted being devastated by the controversial ruling.
However, the club is to lodge an appeal with the Connacht LGFA and is presently in the process of preparing it with a legal firm.
The club further stated it they will not be making any further comment as it feels it would be inappropriate to do at this present time.
The full statement is as follows:
"Statement from Carnacon Ladies Gaelic Football Club as of 22nd August in response to the decision of Mayo LGFA to remove our Senior team from league and championship football for the 2018 season.
"Understandably, the entire panel, management, club officers, our families and supporters are devastated by the sequence of events which have transpired.
"The club is in the process of preparing an appeal of this decision to lodge with the Connacht LGFA, so at this point in time we feel it would be inappropriate to comment any further.
"We hope you can understand our position and respect our decision.
"At the end of the day - all our members want is to play football and we hope to get this opportunity again in the not too distant future.
"We would like to thank the general public for their support and goodwill in this unprecedented situation."
