Death of retired garda superintendent
THE death has taken place after a lengthy illness of Pat Doyle, a retired, Mayo-based garda superintendent.
Up to his retirement some years ago, Supt. Doyle was head of the Westport garda district.
A native of Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow, he lived with his wife, Bernie, and family at Milebush, Castlebar.
During his long and distinguished career with An Garda Síochána, Mr. Doyle served in Kilkenny, Waterford, Templemore Training College, as well as Westport, his final posting.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Corinna, and brother, John.
He is survived by his wife Bernie, daughters Elaine and Emma, sons-in-law John and Enda, brothers Albert and Michael, sisters Mary, Ann, Julie and Helen, as well as other relatives, including four grandchildren.
Remains will repose at the Doyle family residence, Milebush, on Monday evening (September 3) from 4 to 8 p.m.
Removal takes place to Breaffy Church on Tuesday for funeral Mass at 11 a.m., with burial afterwards in Breaffy Cemetery.
