Former Buzz nightclub to become a youth hub
THE former Buzz nightclub in Swinford is to become a new community youth hub.
LEADER funding of €87,800 has been announced for the hub, based in the old disco premises located opposite the former Courthouse.
The building is owned by Swinford Community Development Ltd. and the total cost of the project will be approximately €117,000.
Once up and running, the new youth hub will provide a vital service to the young people of Swinford.
Fine Gael election candidate Alan Dillon said: “The new youth hub will be a place where the young people of Swinford can meet up within a safe and supervised community setting. I have no doubt that maximum use of the new facility will be achieved through linkages with local schools, community groups, sports clubs and other physical activity organisations.
“The key objective is to increase the number of people of all ages participating in social, recreational and educational activity. These facilities provide the opportunity and setting to build new friendships and create a sense of community.”
Local councillor Michael Smyth, who is chairperson of Swinford Community Development Ltd., said the hub will have IT facilities, recreational space for games, a mini cinema room and meeting rooms.
He paid tribute to all who have supported the vision of providing a safe recreational space for young people.
