Fresh Mayo garda alert over fake €50 notes
A NEW garda alert has been issued in Mayo over counterfeit €50 notes.
Proprietors of late night business outlets have been urged to be particularly cautious when accepting €50 notes from strangers.
Garda Michael Toland, community garda liason officer in Castlebar, said the notes were of a very sophististed nature and were not easily identified as counterfeit in the marker system used in banks and business outlets.
"The difference between these and the real €50 notes is that there are dots around the 5 and 0 of the fake version. Anybody coming across them should not accept them and contact their local garda station immediately," added Garda Toland.
A similar alert was issued a number of week ago when gardaí were notified of the bogus notes circulating in the east of the county.
Now in the past few days, they have been presented in shops located in other parts of Mayo.
