Nadine in spinning fundraiser to boost fight against homelessness

Castlebar native, Nadine Hughes, is hosting a ‘spinning fundraiser’ in a bid to raise funds for homeless charity, The Simon Community, to fight against homelessness in the west of Ireland.

The 45 minute spinning event will take place next Thursday, November 1, at 8:30 p.m. in The Movement Gym, Castlebar, and will be followed by a raffle with spot prizes on the night.

Nadine is a support worker with The Simon Community and explained the reason behind her fundraising.

“I work in the frontline services at Galway Simon Community and I witness first-hand the struggles that people have to face on a daily basis, and I see just how easy it is to lose your home and sense of security. It motivated me to raise funds to help a family to secure a first time home, or in fact just prevent them from losing it”, said Nadine.

“I wanted to do this spinning event because I felt that by everyone coming together to give back to those who need it the most, it would promote a real sense of community. Without the generosity of our community, and local businesses who have sponsored it, the event wouldn't be possible,” she added.

The Simon Community in the west have supported 468 unique households so far this year, 339 of which were supported to help prevent them from becoming homeless with the remaining 129 households being accommodated in their housing services.

The lack of affordable housing has led the charity to place a huge focus on helping to prevent people from becoming homeless and out of emergency accommodation. All proceeds raised from this event will help to prevent and address homelessness.

Spaces for the spinning class cost €15 and can be reserved on the night at The Movement Gym in Castlebar. Places will be first come, first serve so come early to avoid disappointment.
