Judge orders woman to stay out of all shops in Mayo county town
A MOTHER of three young children has been ordered by a District Judge to stay out off all shops in Castlebar or else face the prospect of going to prison.
Winnie McDonagh, 10 Seaview Park, Newport, was arrested and brought before Judge Fiona Lydon today on charges under the Public Order Act.
The charges related to an incident which occured at a supermarket in Castlebar.
Superintendant Tom Calvey said he would only agree to remanding the defendant on bail if certain conditions were laid down and they included the defendant staying away from all shops in the county town and observing a curfew from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Originally the State had sought an order that the defendant would stay out of Castlebar town entirely.
But solicitor for the defendant, Mr. Gary Mulchrone. said his client would have to attend Mayo Unversity Hospital for medical appointments.
The defendant gave a commitment to the court that she would not venture into any shops in Castlebar between now and the hearing date for her case, which was adjourned to January 16.
“Any breach in those conditions and your bail will be revoked,” Judge Lydon warned the defendant.
