Mayo author shortlisted for prestigious novel award

A YOUNG Mayo author has been shortlisted for the coveted Costa Novel Award.

Castlebar native Sally Rooney was chosen for her widely acclaimed work, Normal People.

The winner of the most prestigious award for novelists in the UK and Ireland will be announced on January 7 and the top prize is €30,000.

Earlier this week Sally was named International Author of the Year at the British Specsavers Book of the Year awards.
