Mayo gardai disarm man who threatened them with knives
A MAN who threatened gardai with two knives in Castlebar on Saturday was eventually disarmed and subdued.
Members of the Armed Support Unit (ASU) assisted uniformed officers in disarming the suspect at a dwelling house in Castlebar following an earlier incident at a local convenience store.
The initial episode at Mulroy's, Moneen roundabout, involved a male shop worker being threatened with a knife when he pursued a man who had purchased two packets of tobacco but refused to pay for them.
In a follow-up operation, gardai and ASU members went to a house in Castlebar where they were confronted by a man carrying two knives in a threatening manner.
Eventually, the suspect, a man in his thirties, was subdued and arrested.
A file is to be prepared for the DPP on the incidents.
