Achill is firmly on the digital hub map
Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Acla has welcomed the announcement of funding for gteic@Acaill.
Terence Dever, CEO of CFÁA, outlined that he “looks forward to working with Údarás na Gaeltachta along with his board of directors and staff to develop a state-of-the-art digital hub in Gob a’ Choire on Achill Island.”
CFÁA currently operate a successful and vibrant language and culture office in the Integrated Services building in Gob a’ Choire and will also manage the new gteic@Acaill innovation and digital hub on behalf of Údarás na Gaeltachta.
This development is gteic – Gréasán Digiteach na Gaeltachta - a growing network of 30 innovation and digital hubs to be developed by Údarás na Gaeltachta in locations throughout Ireland’s Gaeltacht Area.
The innovation and digital hubs are to be dotted along the coast in Donegal, Mayo, Galway, Kerry and Cork in addition to Waterford and Meath.
Six Gaeltacht islands will also form part of this growing digital ecosystem to support the sustainability of these off-shore island communities.
It is expected that work on gteic@Acaill innovation and digital hub will begin in early 2019 and CFÁA along with Údarás na Gaeltachta will begin the process of attracting users to the facility.
Local Councillor Paul McNamara stated: “The work undertaken behind the scenes by the team in CFÁA to lobby for this facility in the parish of Achill has been fantastic and is now looking forward to seeing this much needed digital hub being opened”.
Even at this early stage, Mr. Dever is encouraging any businesses interested in getting further information on the gteic@Acaill to contact either CFÁA or Údarás na Gaeltachta.
“This significant investment into the parish of Achill has been broadly welcomed for the potential it offers in the creation of sustainable high value jobs in Achill. It will provide facilities for remote workers and businesses and will prove a huge asset to our community.”
