Good news on one of Mayo's bumpiest roads
THE final leg of the Turlough Road – as it enters Castlebar – must qualify as one of the bumpiest stretches in Ireland.
Some motorists avoid the stretch altogether, preferring to shoot down through Curradrish and enter Castlebar via Pontoon Road for fear of damaging their vehicles.
Senior engineer Ann Sweeney promised Councillor Michael Kilcoyne, cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District, that a contractor is lined up to carry out the works before Christmas.
Councillor Kilcoyne, as well as Councillor Blackie Gavin, have been beating the drum on the issue for what seems like years.
