Ballyhaunis teacher dies from injuries sustained in traffic accident

A member of the teaching staff of Ballyhaunis Community School has died in hospital from injuries sustained in a traffic accident.

The death was announced today of Anne Grogan (nèe Keane), a mother-of-three, Cloonlough, Ballinlough, and formerly Barrinagh, Granlahan, Co. Roscommon.

She suffered injuries when her car was involved in a collision at Ballinlough last Friday, an accident in which a lorry and van were also involved.

Aged in her early 30s, the deceased was a much-loved personality held in very high regard in the community.

News of her passing has cast a deep shadow of sorrow and immense loss across a wide area.

She is survived by her husband Ciaran, children Oisìn, Odràn and baby Àine, parents Mattie and Phil, brothers and sisters Marty, Tommy, Mary, Sylvia, David and Jackie, parents-in-law Joe and Breda, extended family, neighbours, friends and the pupils and staff of Ballyhaunis Community School, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

In a tribute on its website, Ballyhaunis Community School said the deceased was a much loved member of the school community, admired and respected by both students and staff.

"We will miss Anne's dedication and professionalism as a teacher and, above all, we will miss her kindness and her warmth as a good friend.

"Her loss is felt profoundly by the school community and this is only a shadow of the grief borne by her husband, children, parents, brothers and sisters."

The deceased was a prominent member of Michael Glaveys GAA Club.

Her remains will be reposing at McDonagh's Funeral Home, Castlerea, on Thursday evening from 4 to 7 p.m.

Requiem Mass takes place on Friday in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ballinlough, at 1.30 p.m. with burial afterwards in the local cemetery.
