Preliminary works to start soon on Newport sewerage treatment plant
PRELIMINARY works on the new sewerage treatment plant for Newport will commence during the second quarter of 2019.
Councillor Brendan Mulroy has welcomed the confirmation by Irish Water.
He stated: “I am delighted to have been informed that the new waste water treatment plant for Newport is a high priority for Irish Water and is included on the current investment plan as it is classified as having 'no treatment' by the Environmental Protection Agency
“A feasibility study report for the project will shortly be completed which will identify the scope and a preferred site for the project.
“Detailed design, planning, environmental surveys, land acquisition, site investigation surveys and procurement will commence in quarter two of this year.
“This will continue for up to two years and construction is scheduled to commence in 2021, subject to successful planning approval and land acquisition. Construction duration will be up to two years.”
